Once there was a cat without a home. He had a very
difficult life, living off scraps and mice, which he found bitter and chewy.
One day, as he was roaming through the gardens, he saw a lovely lady. She opened
her door and he saw into a beautiful living room, with a lovely, soft-looking
sofa. There were beautiful cushions on that sofa and he dreamt of kneading them
with his claws.
She spotted him! She smiled, went back into her
kitchen and returned with a sardine on a plate for him. He ate it very
gratefully and said a loud ‘meow.’ That meow meant, ‘Please can I come and live
with you?’ However, the lady had an important job and she didn’t want the
responsibility of a cat.
Still, every day, she left him a little something
– a piece of fish, a bowl of milk, a can of tuna. Eventually, the cat let her
tickle his ears.
After a few weeks, he rolled over and let her
tickle his tummy. He looked deep into her eyes and purred. Soon after, she
decided that, actually, having a cat wouldn’t be too much trouble after all and
so she let him in.
Now, that lady’s beautiful cushions are torn to
shreds, but she doesn’t mind at all!
